I'm Too Sexy for My: Who Are the Highest Paid Supermodels?

Right Said Fred created the I’m Too Sexy video in 1992. It was an instant hit. Now every model knows the words to I’m Too Sexy verbatim.

As you know, I study economics. Well, supermodels are the definition of high demand. There is a real talent shortage.

If you want to be a model, you need thick skin and a thin waist. You’ll get picked apart if you’re not careful. That’s why I admire models for their confidence.

Sometimes supermodels come off as arrogant. But that’s not the case. In their line of work, a strong ego is a requirement.

I admire models for their work ethic. Picture the hours of hard work that go into modeling. A model must spend countless hours in front of flashing cameras.

That’s not all. She has to count her calories. And, a model must exercise like a racehorse.

If a model tries her best, she is compensated accordingly.

Modeling agencies carefully choose the bodies that get to strut on the catwalk. If you’re too fragile, don’t apply. If you’re too sexy, then let’s go ahead and get it done.

If you are an aspiring model, don’t quit. Remember, there’s a big reward. Here are the 10 highest paid models...

10. Lara Stone

There’s no denying the Dutch beauty Lara Stone. The blonde model is the 10th highest paid internationally. She is known for her lucrative Calvin Klein jeans contract.

In total, Lara Stone earned $3.2 million. She has a good name and is very valuable. Calvin Klein can't afford to drop her.

8. Joan Smalls

Joan Smalls is a steady name in the business. She’s accustomed to making lists. This time she is number 8.

The sexy supermodel tallied a total of $3.5 million. At 5’11” and age 25, Joan’s purse is fattening. If you love numbers, then you love Joan.

She puts some pep in her step when she struts. You see if you stick with it like Miranda, you too can receive the big reward. Smart work pays dividends.

1. Gisele Bündchen

It seems like Gisele Bündchen makes all the rules just to break them. No other model comes close to the $42 million Gisele pocketed. These days, she’s running down the runway.

Who doesn’t follow Gisele on Instagram?  If you are a future model, you must follow Gisele. She shows you how to do it!

Final Thoughts

As I noted in Celebrity Rag Riches, you can’t go wrong with the fashion industry. Models are naturally pulled in the direction of fashion and entertainment. It’s easy to see how the industries connect.

I thought Kate Upton would make the top 10. But, I have faith in Forbes’ numbers. So, look for Kate next time.

The modeling industry is highly competitive. Dare I say it is cutthroat and ruthless? All these models make it look easy.

The fact is it takes more than sheer sexiness to make it in the modeling world. You have to possess a combination of factors. Do you have what it takes?

Don’t ever fear rejection. Where one door closes, another door opens. Remember, you must fail in order to succeed.

The top 10 highest paid models earned $82.8 million total. That’s right, Gisele Bündchen made more money than the other 9 combined. It’s not too surprising considering she owns a lingerie line. And, she's too sexy for her skirt...

7 Lucky Ways Celebrities Make Money

Familiar faces flash on the screen. Your TV, laptop, tablet and smartphone have loads of images, videos, and data on them. You probably follow your favorite celebrities on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, MySpace and Instagram.

Once you’re famous, you’re always famous to somebody. Forget what Shia Labeouf said. There’s no escaping the spotlight after crossing center stage.

Social media and reality TV have allowed us an inside look into Pop Culture. Celebrities are born on YouTube. You couldn’t pick a more perfect time than now to be famous.

Entertainers are living the good life. Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan are Livin’ La Vida Loca. Click here to find out how to party like a rock star

The job of a celebrity is to simply celebrate. Celebrities make a fortune just by making an appearance. Paris Hilton is a prime example of a socialite who exploits her infamy.

There are several creative ways celebrities earn a living. I want to show you the microeconomics behind Hollywood. I am an accountant after all.

There is power in numbers. That’s why stars such as Shia Labeouf work hard to get attention. That’s also why fans are so important.

More fans = more money. Social media sites like Twitter give celebrities a platform to engage with followers. I recommend this story from Wet Paint. How Much Do Celebrities Get Paid To Tweet

1. Twitter

Sending Tweets is one creative way celebrities make money. At an early age, I realized the power of words. This is why I blog. Twitter is simply a short form of writing. They call it “micro-blogging.”

Can you believe they founded the site 8 years ago? Today Twitter is worth multi-billions. It’s hard to believe, that in such a short span of time, the social media site could conquer the public.

I just recently joined Twitter; and, I already recognize its potential. Twitter allows you to build meaningful relationships. Visit Adage for more information.

2. Photos

Why do you think Kim Kardashian keeps uploading pics of her derrière on Instagram? Answer: because her booty has a pricetag. Celebrities make mad money from photos. You can hear them laughing as they go to the bank.

Photos are a major part of social media. Facebook needs a plethora of images in order to exist. Don’t we love reading faces? Isn’t Facebook a book of faces?

When a celebrity is strapped for cash, all he has to do is snap a photo. Then, send it to TMZ. Now, wait for the check to arrive in the mail.

3. Videos

What would you do to extend your 15 minutes of fame? Would you act a fool on camera? In the near future, I can see sites like Vine gaining some steam.

It wouldn’t surprise if Google via YouTube buys the emerging video social media site. Videos have an enormous impact on society. Think about how TMZ shells out massive cash for exclusive footage

Musicians make money in a number of ways. Royalties from videos is a new way artists get paid. Read here for info about VEVO

4. Endorsements

When I think of lucrative endorsement deals, athletes come to mind. Basketball is on everybody’s brain. Players are in the limelight while the NBA Playoffs winds down.

Kevin Durant was launched to space in a Sprint commercial. The helpful Blake Griffin endorses Kia. Who can forget Chris Paul’s State Farm twins’ saga? And, you’ll see a LeBron James Samsung ad on occasion.

You’re in luck, if you are a musician too. Pepsi pounces on the opportunity to sign superstars. Watch a classic example here.

5. Parties

Hollywood stars own the night. Can you picture receiving a paycheck for partying? In the words of the Jackson 5, it’s easy as A.B.C.!

Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Fergie and Blake Lively have made money by making appearances at parties. The amount of money they make seems absurd. But, big businesses can afford to spend big money.

Kim Kardashian made 500,000 dollars as an escort overseas. This has become the new normal. In the Reality TV world we live in, we expect extravagant expenses.

6. Reality TV

Reality TV has a major influence on us in real ways. You can literally become a celebrity overnight. All you have to do is, start some sort of an altercation with somebody.

Why do we care so much about Snooki? How much money does Duck Dynasty generate? Who is Khloe’s new boyfriend

We wouldn’t ask those questions ten years ago. We were keeping up with the Joneses. Now, we keep up with the Kardashians.

7. Instagram

First on my list is Twitter. Number 7 on my list is Instagram for similar reasons. The app is a relatively new phenomenon that has taken the world by storm.

I joined Instagram about one month ago. I’m thankful for each one of my followers. Please follow my account here

Although the site hasn’t been around for even 5 years, it is extremely influential. It’s another hot way to interact with your fans. Check out Beyonce’s account

They say technology eliminates jobs. Celebrities defy logic and use technology to their advantage. Twitter is music to their ears.

You only have one life to live, so live your life to the fullest. We can learn a lot from celebrities. Most of them don’t have a care in the world.

Increase your odds by lining your ducks in a row. Seneca said, “luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” So brace yourself for a wild ride. Please wear your helmets.

Celebrity Rag Riches- The Clothing Line Empires of Jessica Simpson, Diddy, Kimora Lee Simmons, Mary Kate And Ashley Olsen

Clothes are a basic need. Fashion is a want or desire. Luxury is a gift.

My motto is… to each his own. Pick your poison.  If you want to look nice, by all means dress for success

Fashion is poisonous. Walk into a fashionista’s closet; and, you’ll swear it was a warehouse. You’ll find belts, boots, scarfs, and anything fashionable.

Aim to be the best dressed. Mark Twain said: “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.” So invest in a nice wardrobe.

Your apparel says a lot about you. You are what you wear. Do you wear tacky clothes? Are you wearing mismatched shoes?

We all have a sister who splurges on the fancy things. She owns 100 pairs of shoes. And, she is part owner of Zappos. Shoes are the main suspects.

The question is how can someone spend so much money on luxurious brands. In my article, I hope to answer this question and more. I’ll show you how celebrities are culprits.

Celebrities Most Wanted List

The following celebrities are most wanted for making a killing off of their clothing lines.

#10 Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie has a good name. In marketing, you learn the value of brand name recognition. Her brand is strong because of the celebrity of her father and The Simple Life reality show.

TV is a powerful platform. Even if you don’t own a physical television, you probably have watched TV shows on the Internet. House of Harlow 1960 is a baby Nicole has nurtured since 2010.

Rachel Zoe sets the stage for celebrity stylists. If you’re a player in the industry, then Rachel is on your radar. The Rachel Zoe Project helps build and expand her brand.

The fashion designer launched her clothing line in 2011. She collected $20 million in sales. Her husband Roger Berman is CEO of the company. Do you see a trend?

Justin Timberlake made the list as expected. He is a savvy businessman. And, I’ve heard he makes pretty good music too.

Timberlake and Trace Ayala built a $50 million brand named William Rast. Over the years, it has gained significant media attention. I imagine the clothing line will take off in the near future.

Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. reached sales of $90 million. Gwen is a huge success due to her music. Music is her main platform.

Musicians succeed in fashion, because they are artistic. Walk into a boutique and you will encounter an eccentric owner. Creativity is required in this business.

Spice girl and wife of David, Victoria Beckham is worth $95 million in revenue. Her true calling is fashion. Beckham has global reach and international appeal.

She is a really good singer. What is more, Beckham is an even better businesswoman. She has magnetic charm.

#5 Diddy

Sean John “Diddy” Combs is a commercial success. He built a clothing line empire with his smooth business skills. His revenue from clothes exceeds $250 million.

The urban community embraces Diddy’s brand Sean John without a doubt. Diddy has diversified and that helps maintain his cash flow. Forbes loves him…do you?

#4 Jay-Z

Nowadays, Jay-Z is known as Beyoncé’s husband. Did you know his Rocawear brand earns $700 million per year? Curious George says that isn't peanuts!

Jay-Z proudly displays his celebrity rag riches. His prolific rap career benefits his clothing line empire. Forbes loves him too.

The former reality TV star makes more money with her clothing line than with her music. The Jessica Simpson Collection has racked in over $750 million of revenue. She has big boots to fill.

There’s a catch to Jessica Simpson’s clothing line success. Simpson is absent from country music. That’s why Taylor Swift is bigger than Moses.

The model Kimora Lee Simmons made over $800 million in sales as a fashion designer. This level of success in the fashion industry is extremely rare. She struts beauty on the runway. And she has brains built for business at the headquarters.

The reality star has 3 clothing lines: KLS, Kouture by Kimora and Fabulosity. What’s her secret? How does she manage to maintain?

The Olsen twins hold down the number 1 spot. They reached $1 billion in revenue. Ashley and Mary-Kate have turned their celebrity status 360 degrees. They’re most famous for portraying Michelle on the family TV sitcom Full House.

Celebrities secretly envy the Olsen family. Their clothing line empire is the cream of the crop. They have built the toughest celebrity fashion brand.

The fashion industry generates $1.2 trillion. Read here for the latest statistics. LVMH’s annual revenue surpasses $37 billion.

Also, Christian Dior and Hermès are among the iconic international luxury brands. Celebrity clothing lines contribute a great deal to the profitable apparel industry. If you have a good idea, there’s no need to worry about going out of business. You’re always in high demand.

Honorable Mentions

The following celebrities have made a fortune from their fashion lines: Selena Gomez, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Beyoncé, Nicky Hilton, 50 Cent, Nelly, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams.

These days, ‘rags to riches’ is rare. ‘Riches to rags’ is the norm. But still, where there is a will there is a way.

I recommend reading How to Start a Clothing Line. I suggest you become a celebrity first, if you want to improve your chances. It will be 100 times easier to break into the industry this way.

As you can see, many celebrities make more money in the fashion industry than in entertainment. I call this phenomenon Celebrity Rag Riches.
