Happy Birthday! Liam Payne

Liam Payne

Once upon a time, there was One Direction (1D) and Directioners. It seems like such a long time ago, but it really has only been 1 year and 8 months since One Direction broke up for good. Were you a Directioner? Remember how big of a deal it was when Zayn Malik went solo. Now, look at the bigger picture. Everybody has gone solo.

Say it isn't true? It seems Fifth Harmony will break up too if my sources are correct. So much for staying the course. Who thought the group was going to add another member? Maybe, One Direction will reunite someday as will Fifth Harmony.

And so, you know the story of 1D and Liam Payne. The kind and likable Liam Payne established himself in a mean and nasty music industry. Liam Payne and the establishment are one in the same because he is elite.

What ever happened to true Fandom? Why did the Beatles have to breakup? If you are an artist you've gotta build your fan base like One Direction. That's why there are Katycats, Lovatics, and Beliebers because individuals had the foresight to establish themselves. Are you a Swiftie? Well then, check out the Urban Legend of Taylor Swift and Who's Really Hotter Taylor Swift Vs. Katy Perry?

Lately, Taylor Swift has been dominating the news. Right now, it is time to give a shout out to Liam Payne. Today is literally his birthday. He turns 24 years old. Wish him a happy birthday @IamGuruJay and @LiamPayne.

Who's waiting for Liam Payne's next album? Fresh off the One Direction (1D) boat, Liam recently released 2 singles: Strip That Down and Get Low. Strip That Down has went double platinum. I predict it will go triple platinum when it's all said and done. Who knows he could get a diamond in the future.

Who's Watching The Tick?

Who's Watching The Tick?

This Saturday I spent some time watching The Tick with family. We were looking for a fun comedy and came across the Amazon Prime series. I had a feeling it was going to be good.

I noticed #TheTick trending on Twitter. These days I find some of my best stories originate from Twitter. I'd love to hear your take on the new TV show. Here are my thoughts on the new Amazon Prime series.

First of all, the acting was over the top, borderline bad. I don't remember ever seeing the cartoon, but if I did it was probably better than this malarkey. I think it should have stayed a cartoon; at least in that format, I could better understand and excuse the plot holes and poor character developments.

As the Original Entertainment Guru, I value original entertainment. The Tick lacked creativity. You see I heard those jokes before already. I wanted them to say something new and different for a change. It didn't happen. Comedy is all about discovering new perspectives. At the end of the day, I saw the same ole perspective. I had high expectations for The Tick. Maybe, I set the bar too high.

On the bright side, the cinematography was fine. I think it was a good setting. Still, there wasn't enough excitement for me. It has potential in a parallel universe.

Overall, I gave it 2 stars out of 5. After watching the pilot and the second episode, we had to call it a day. It wasn't our cup of tea. It wasn't a total waste of time though, because I took a nap.

They tried to be like the Green Lantern, but failed. I haven't seen this much bad TV in a long time. I was disappointed. Who's watching The Tick? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Why Halsey Is Music's Solar Eclipse

Why Halsey Is Music's Solar Eclipse

You have been living under a rock if you haven't heard about the solar eclipse. Also, if you don't know Halsey by now, allow me to introduce you to her. Halsey is music's solar eclipse.

Her type of music talent comes around once every 99 years, Halsey was born in 1994 in Washington, New Jersey. Her name is a derivative of a Brooklyn street sign. It is also an anagram of her real name Ashley.

Halsey hasn't always had it easy although she makes her work look effortless. She struggled in the beginning of her career. However, she didn't give up and look at her now.

Halsey is music's solar eclipse because her talent is rare. The Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Beyonce are a thing of the past. Out of nowhere, Halsey comes and makes a way.

I feel like Halsey falls somewhere between Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande as far as fame. Make no mistake, she is getting more famous. She has a bright future ahead of her.

She wasn't in Fifth Harmony or Little Mix, yet she has amassed as much star power as them. Halsey has sang duets with the Chainsmokers and Justin Bieber himself. It is amazing what she has accomplished in such a short span of time. Plus, she is only getting more famous and popular for the right reasons.

What is more, her music is making a claim on popular culture. New Americana is taking over American train of thought. Fans can't get enough of Now or Never. In fact, they expect to hear the song at concerts. Right now, you can find Halsey on tour. She is performing in Las Vegas, Connecticut and Boston. It is an exciting time for Halsey and her fans. What is your favorite Halsey song? Do you agree that she is music's solar eclipse?

Are You Binge-Watching The Defenders?

Are You Binge-Watching The Defenders?

I decided to binge-watch Marvel's The Defenders on Netflix. The Defenders showcases 4 amazing talents. The series combines Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the Iron Fist into one. Let's start the discussion. Are you binge-watching the Defenders?

In this blog, I will analyze the first four episodes.I will tell you what I liked and what I didn't like. By the end, you'll see why they call me the Original Entertainment Guru.

I throughly enjoyed the first episode. The story begins in Cambodia with sword fighting and a ton of action. A dying man's last words were “the real war is in New York City.” As the Immortal Iron Fist flys back on his private plane, he experiences turbulence coupled with a nightmare about Cambodia. His girlfriend comforts him as he wakes up.

Then, it cuts to Jessica Jones. She's busy doing the usual- lifting cars and shit. Plus, Luke Cage gets out of jail. He doesn't have time for the man to un-cuff him, so he breaks the cuffs in half with all his might. Meanwhile, Daredevil wins a big case for $11 million.

The first 2 episodes reintroduce all 4 characters in dramatic fashion. It was well written and the acting was terrific. Moreover, the director deserves credit for his vision.

I didn't like the second episode that much. The third episode was the best so far. It had an unforgettable ending. You gotta check it out and see what I mean. I've never seen a more powerful ending to an episode. The fourth episode takes place in a Chinese restaurant.

Overall, the series was well worth the wait. There is something for everybody. The show progressively gets better. In many ways, it is almost like a movie. The Defenders is great TV. I highly recommend binge-watching the Netflix Original series. You may want to watch Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil first.

I like what Netflix and Marvel are doing. Bringing 4 shows into one is brilliant, brilliant I tell you. If you are into comics, superheroes and the like, it is is a must-see. You receive premium entertainment value. I stopped my binge-watching at the 5th episode. I look forward to seeing the rest. Stay tuned for part II.

Marlon & Naked Movie Review

Yesterday Marlon Wayans returned to prime time TV. Who remembers the Wayans Brothers? His new sitcom is simply called Marlon. As expected, Marlon is hilarious like the man it is named after. 2 episodes aired back to back on NBC. So, families were rewarded with a full hour of funny. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Marlon goes wild. I've never seen a comedian more physical than him. Have you? He reminded me of Martin. I feel Marlon has gotten funnier over the years.

The other characters were great too. I got love for Essence Atkins and her portrayal of Marlon's ex wife. Plus, Bresha Webb had a nice role.

I want to see Marlon succeed. There are 8 shows already lined up; and I believe there's potential for more. If you want to literally laugh your ass off, then watch Marlon Wayans perform on Mondays.

In addition, Marlon Wayans has a new movie on Netflix called Naked. The movie was released on August 11th. I highly recommend seeing the movie. I watched it last night. You'll enjoy the film because it's original.

The film is about a substitute teacher (Marlon Wayans) marrying a doctor (Regina Hall). Her father thinks she could do a lot better. I don't want to give away too much of the plot because I want you to watch it. However, Marlon's character gets stuck in an elevator naked over and over again. I believe you'll like it.

Wayans plays the hell out of the character. Overall, Naked was well written. I gave it 5 stars because that's the highest rating you could give. Brian McKnight makes a noteworthy appearance. Does he get naked too? You got to watch and see.

Marlon Wayans isn't putting all his eggs into one basket. He is diversifying his talents. Moreover, he has mastered comedy.

Who Is the Best James Bond?

Who Is the Best James Bond?

Daniel Craig confirmed that he will return to play James Bond in an upcoming film. At Guru Jay, we recognize the best. Which brings me to my question: Who is the best James Bond? Is Daniel Craig the best to ever play James Bond? I want to know your thoughts. Here are mine.

First of all, I don't believe Daniel Craig is the best. I thought the producers were trying to find a new James Bond. Didn't you think the same thing? What happened? Daniel Craig doesn't compare to Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan. I'm sorry. Now his movies are great but his acting is only good when compared to the legends. I don't think I'm being harsh. Maybe, I am but you want my honest opinion I'll give it to you.

Daniel Craig doesn't have charisma like Connery and Brosnan. There is a reason our grandmas love Sean Connery to a fault. And our mothers couldn't get enough of Brosnan back in the day. I don't want to knock Daniel Craig too much, but it's time for a new James Bond.

I believe the greatest actor to play James Bond is Sean Connery. However, I believe the best James Bond is Pierce Brosnan. Sean Connery is one of the greatest actors of all time, but he's not the essence of James Bond. Pierce Brosnan is the essence of James Bond. When James Bond comes to mind, I think of Piece Brosnan first.

What are your favorite James Bond movies? My favorite James Bond movie is Die Another Day. I enjoyed the Halle Berry iconic bikini beach scene. After you read this blog, I recommend you check out this interesting Wikipedia Page. You'll discover there has been a total of 13 James Bonds.

To conclude, the second best James Bond is Sean Connery. Daniel Craig is probably in the top five but Pierce Bronsan is the best James Bond unequivocally. Let's start the discussion.

Why Sam Hunt Is Phenomenal

Why Sam Hunt Is Phenomenal

Sam Hunt is scheduled to perform at the CMA Fest on Wednesday. Maybe, after reading this blog post you will tune into the event to see him. It all starts tomorrow at 8 pm on ABC. The biggest names will perform from Blake Shelton to Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood. I know people who are watching strictly because of Sam Hunt's appearance though. The celebrity is having a great year.

Sam Hunt is down to earth and out of this world. His music is undeniably great. Greatness recognizes greatness. I'm interested in seeing what's next in store for Sam Hunt. The 15 in a 30 Tour is going viral on Instagram and Twitter. Hunt's music doesn't appear to be slowing down; he's going full speed ahead. I look forward to his future albums, singles, and concerts. It would be nice to see him live in concert.

I know Sam Hunt will give a phenomenal performance. The 32 year old singer originates out of Nashville, Tennessee. So, the Country singer will be right at home. He can kick off his boots and make himself comfortable. I expect the Body Like a Back Road singer to throw a few curveballs and sliders here and there. It should be fun time because of a sexy crowd. Country music lovers are some of the best fans in the world. A Country Star is only as good as his fans. What is Sam Hunt without Hunters?

I consider Take Your Time to be a classic. Did you know Take Your Time went Platinum 4 times? Body Like a Back Road went Platinum 3 times already. It's only a matter of time before Sam Hunt wins a Grammys. There's a Grammy with his name on it. What do you think is the best Sam Hunt song?

In a nutshell, Sam Hunt will give a phenomenal performance because he is phenomenal.

What Is Game of Thrones Without Emilia Clarke?

What Is Game of Thrones Without Emilia Clarke?

I blogged about Emilia Clarke's portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen as a major reason people watch Game of Thrones in a recent blogpost entitled Why Game of Thrones Is the Number 1 TV Show. I still stand by that assertion. Without Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones would not be the same though. What Chris Martin is to Coldplay and what Kaley Cuoco is to the Big Bang Theory, Emilia Clarke is to Game of Thrones.

Her character and the actress herself has evolved through the years. This blogpost hopes to highlight or at least shine a light on some of her excellence. In my eyes, Emilia Clarke is the English version of Scarlett Johansson. You can't deny that her beauty is a factor for fans tuning in every Sunday on HBO. Moreover, you can't deny that her talent is another factor fans are glueing their eyeballs to their 4K Ultra and HD screens. The equation is simple. Beauty + Talent = Movie Star.

The Hollywood actress turned 30 years old on October 23rd. She started filming Game of Thrones in her mid-twenties. I believe she has became more beautiful and more talented within that time frame. Moreover, she has a good sense of humor and is a pleasant personality, which is rare. I recommend watching a few interviews and getting to know her when you get the chance. I'm providing a brief clip at the end of this post for your enjoyment.

What is Game of Thrones without Emilia Clarke? Her character's long golden flowing locks are signature to the series. Plus, I can see the show staying in production for another 5 years. You see Game of Thrones is based on a book by George R.R. Martin. Emilia Clarke is appealing to book lovers, especially fantasy genre aficionados in the realm of television. Fans on both sides are pleased with her characterization. Chime in your comments. You're welcome at GuruJay.com.

A Farewell to Orphan Black

A Farewell to Orphan Black

My British friends and many Americans were fans of Orphan Black. I decided to watch Orphan Black after noticing my Twitter feed full of #OrphanBlack s. I had featured the show in a blog post back in March 2014. My blog has been around for a relatively long time on the Internet.

I've been trying to figure out who is Elizabeth Childs? So, I pulled an all nighter Saturday to get to the bottom of it. I still haven't been to sleep. But I'm having fun blogging. Time flies when you're doing something you love to do.

I checked it out to see if it was any good. Overall, I was impressed. The concept was intriguing.

Orphan Black explored urgent issues in today's society. It also showed a refreshing perspective on life in general. Now that it is completed, I plan on watching every single episode. I wasn't late to the bandwagon because I'm not a bandwagon jumper. I was always aware of the show's greatness. That's why they call me the Entertainment Guru.

There's just so much TV you can consume in your personal life. You got to make time for books, music, comedy, and movies too.

For the record, I didn't binge watch Orphan Black. I watched 2 episodes through and through. We do ourselves a disservice when we binge watch, sometimes.

The genius of Orphan Black is that it was an imported TV show. Originality is rare in the film business. Hollywood remakes Remakes. You read that right. Orphan Black was as original as they came in entertainment and showbiz.

I wonder what's next for Tatiana Maslany and the amazing cast. It appears Orphan Black is officially ending after 5 seasons. The show is over. They say it's a wrap. 5 seasons is a long enough time. Plus, I believe the whole story was told and that's what is important. This is a farewell to Orphan Black.

Planet of the Apes Trilogy Movie Analysis

Photos By: Wikimedia Commons

War for the Planet of the Apes is a fantastic conclusion to the Planet of the Apes franchise. I've seen all three movies in the theaters and give each one high praise. Here's my analysis. The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the first in the series, was a great start. And the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the second one, was extraordinary.

Overall, the acting was phenomenal. Andy Serkis portrays Caesar perfectly in every movie. His character literally evolves on screen. James Franco deserves credit for his contribution as Dr. Rodman in the original. Finally, Woody Harrelson deserves respect for his portrayal of the Colonel in the finale.

It's hard to say which movie is the best because each movie has its own intrinsic value. The Rise contains the most science fiction. Sci-Fi lovers can appreciate the experiments on chimpanzees because that's science fiction at its core. But I believe the Dawn contains the best scenes. Who can forget Koba's iconic machine gun scene?

With that said, the Dawn is still not better than the Rise. What is the Dawn without the Rise? The Rise sets up the story so that the Dawn can be great. And the Dawn sets up the story so that War can be greater. Somehow they all work together.

However, as a standalone film I rank War higher than the others. The director did not hold back. Matt Reeves used cutting edge technology and advanced techniques. His directing has become better over the years. Plus, the cinematography is revolutionary. There are only a dozen or so movies with arguably better photography than War for the Planet of the Apes.

The writing is not all that good in the Dawn. But I must say, I'm impressed by the writing in War. It reminds me of the Rise.
Chime in your comments. What are your thoughts on the Planet of the Apes Trilogy?
